Slab House
Slab House Artist Statement:
For this project, we were given the chance to choose between creating a spirit house or a miniature room. I chose to create a miniature room, which required additive and subtractive relief, along with close details of a room.
I have decided to recreate a very girly living room that includes a cute sofa, a fireplace, a small table, and a bookshelf. As for the subtractive relief, I carved out three windows, and added extra clay to outline the windows in the outside in order to add additive relief. Also, I added little curved out squiggly lines in the inside of the miniature room for more subtractive relief.
I created the piece in the way that I did because the overall atmosphere of the room is the feel that I have always wanted to have in my own house. With the pure white wallpaper, the room appears clean and pure. Then, the hot pink sofa and the little lines of hot pink on the sides give the room a girly feel. Then, the fireplace is just something that I have always imagined having in my living room.
The piece reflects what I always wanted in a living room and acts as a model for what I want my living room to look like someday. I was able to work with small figures of a bookshelf, a sofa, a fireplace, and a table, which was a new and exciting experience.
